Kuala Lumpar (KL)

Unlike our bus run into Malacca the trip to KL was uneventful, at least as far as the bus went. Once we arrived at the terminal things started to go pear shaped. We tried to jump in a cab but he wouldn’t put his meter on so we got out. We ended up getting a train into the city after about three false starts and then walking the last kilometre to the hotel, there was no way Oui was getting in another cab. Ride sharing over here is huge, unfortunately getting Grab the local ride share app working on our phones has been a bit of an issue.

Let me tell you about the public transport here. It is good, it is cheap and reasonably well integrated but trying to get your head round it when you just arrive is taxing to say the least. Also we made a big cultural faux pas, both off us were wearing shorts. The local don’t like it and they treat you accordingly. So we needed to figure out what transport system we needed to get to the hotel. There are several to choose from:

     Light Rail Transit - LRT
     Mass Rapid Transit - MRT
Kuala Lumpar International Airport Express - KLIA
Rapid KL - Local bus service
Go KL - Free city bus
     Komuter - KTM

I can honestly say I’m not sure which one we used but we arrived safely and are sticking with ride sharing from now on.

Anyway when we arrived at the Hotel and the room wasn’t ready so we were ushered to the lounge area on the 48th floor with a magnificent view and given complimentary juice and water then upgraded to a two bedroom apartment with just about everything that opens and shuts. Oui unwound with a relaxing bath and I hit the pool.

It was a pretty exhausting day and we just weren’t ready to venture out so we hit a local Malay restaurant literally 100 metres up the road. It was unbelievably good. Oui has this spectacular prawn dish that was just out of this world. It made her extremely happy, as her experience with the street food thus far has been less than stellar.

Well we don’t have a lot planned for KL so we booked our tickets to the Petronas Twin Towers, organised an outing to the Batu Caves, got our Cambodian visa organised plus booked flights and accommodation at Siem Reap inreadiness for Angkor Wat. Hopefully KL will start sharing its charm but right now it is leaving a bit to be desired.
