We woke up after a restful sleep and indulged ourselves in a leisurely breakfast. Nothing to fault here, except the coffee. I have even succumbed to drinking Starbucks, a taint I may never be wash off. We grabbed a three day tourist pass for the public transport and walked to the nearest MRT (I think it stands for Mass Raid Transport) station and hopped a train to the Gardens By The Bay but before we got there we were sidetracked and jumped on the Singapore Flyer and got a pretty amazing overview of the city, literally.
From there it was on to the Gardens by the Bay which has this sphincter tightening skywalk, two of the biggest indoor gardens you have ever seen and an expansive outdoor park that if it weren’t so hot and humid would be a delight to explore. We dined in an indifferent cafe called Pollen where they really tried hard but just weren’t up to the task. You could not have asked for more pleasant surroundings however. My words won’t be enough but the pictures say it all. Plus you have to watch out for the mosquitos.
To finish off the day time we took the cable car out to Sentosa which is full of theme parks and has a multitude of ways for you to waste your money. If you had kids this place would be awesome and while I always feel like you need to sell an organ to go to these places the prices weren’t too bad. The views were amazing though and we got to see the Merlion up close and personal.
After heading back into the city we took a weight off our feet at a Bavarian Cafe (I know right) and while planning only to drink stayed when some awesome entertainment fired up. We finished the night at the world’s most amazing whisky bar. It was everything a good bar should be, dimly lit, over dressed wait staff, over stuffed chesterfields and over the top drink prices. The menu came in a book that ran to eighty tightly spaced pages, the whisky section was thirty of these. I ordered a 30yo Speyside and sat back and enjoyed it. If was a resident I think i’d need a second job so I could start at page one to drink my way through the list.
All in all it was a massive day and we slept really well.
